Orthodontic Braces

Metal Braces

Metal braces are made from surgical grade stainless steel. They have been in use for more than 50 years. However modern metal braces are smaller and more comfortable than ever before with low profiles and strong adhesives. Aestetically though, they can be distracting. You often see teenagers taking it up a notch with colored elastics to individualize their look. If metal is your choice then you should know that we have done all the research for you. We only use the 3M Mini Uni-Twin™ Brackets. This is the least conspicuous highest quality metal bracket on the market.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made from composite or porcelain material and are less visible than traditional metal braces. They are often requested by patients who may not be candidates for Invisalign but still would like the least visible orthodontic appliance. We recommend 3M Clarity™ Ceramic Braces.

Lingual Braces

Lingual (tongue-side) braces are a type of orthodontic appliance fitted to the back surfaces of your teeth. Like traditional "Metal Braces" they consist of brackets and wires. However the brackets are usually made of gold and are very low profile to limit the interference with the tongue. They are sometimes referred to as "hidden braces". Because of their placement on the posterior side of teeth, the lingual dental braces are in constant contact with the tongue. This contact often causes discomfort and can cause sores or cuts to the tongue as well as difficulties in speech.

The downside of this type of appliance is quite obvious. With our latest advancements in Invisalign, our practice has virtually eliminated the need for lingual side appliances.
